NATO Conference Supported by Avonic AV Solutions

Avonic PTZ cameras were selected because they ‘tick all the boxes’

Avonic – through Budapest-based distributor AVIO MEDIA and full-service congress provider
Robotrade – have further extended the reach and relevance of their PTZ cameras as they
became a fundamental part of the AV solutions provided for the NATO Military Committee
conference, held in Slovenia between the 13 th and 15 th of September.

The conference saw NATO Chiefs of Defence from across the world meet to discuss key issues
of global military strategy and defence. Held at the Grand hotel UNION – Grand Union hall  in
Ljubljana, a temporary conference installation was required to facilitate communication both
within the conference, but also to allow for AV capture and external distribution during and after
the event.

Robotrade, who were overseeing the furnishing of the Narodna Galarija with a comprehensive
Congress Rental System, had a number of key requirements when sourcing appropriate AV
equipment for their installation First and foremost, as members of the Bosch CRN network,
Robotrade required AV capture equipment which could integrate seamlessly into a system
composed of the Bosch Dicentis conference system and MVI Engineering control software. Five Avonic’s
CM40-IP PTZ cameras with full IP streaming, POE and IP control were provided. .A core
principle of Avonic PTZ technology is interoperability, and Avonic products integrate a range of
hardware and software connectivity, which can include IP, HDMI, 3G-SDI and CVBS outputs,
and control over IP, RS232 or RS485 using any controller with VISCA or PELCO support. This
meant that integrating Avonic cameras with the wider Bosch conference system could be done
quickly and with a minimum of technical fuss – both on a hardware and software level.

The second key requirement for Robotrade was the ability to exercise complete and precise
control over camera movement, using preset values to automate movement and ensure that all
details of the conference were recorded smoothly. The five CM40-IP PTZ cameras that were
selected for the installation were designed with exactly this level of automation and presetting in
mind, and are fully controllable through third party software systems such as MVI Engineering. With full
IP streaming, POE and IP control, the entire setup was achieved over IP, thus reducing cabling
clutter and complexity.

This high degree of precision control is also combined with exceptional image quality, and the
ability to deal with challenging lighting conditions within the Narodna Galerija. The net result was
a highly professional video capture of events that has since been used to share the conference
with wider stakeholders – ensuring accountability and transparency in the operations of NATO.

“Avonic cameras proved to be ideal for this kind of temporary conference installation, because
they tick every box.” stated Robert Omovšek, director of Robotrade. “The high image quality is
combined with exceptional usability and easy integration, which is of obvious importance in a
temporary installation where setup needs to be achieved quickly and without risk of failure.
Moreover, this installation had cameras placed right in front of delegates, so silent operation and
sleek design were also important considerations. Through AVIO MEDIA, Avonic were able to
deliver on everything we required.”

Speaking for Avonic, CEO Walter Harrewijn expanded on these thoughts. “We are proud to
have been involved in such a high profile event with international reach and significance.
Increasingly we are finding that our products are being integrated into setups that are supporting
international endeavours and collaborations across a number of fields, including politics and
policy development, NGO operation, international law and cross-border research and education.
These applications all need their important work to be captured at the highest quality and with
the minimum of fuss, so that it can be shared and promulgated in order to facilitate international
dialogue on important issues. It makes us proud that the quality and reliability of our products
can contribute to such important fields”.
